LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY

Since the early 90s of the twentieth century the principles of the "Green Chemistry", proposed by Anastas, are
well-known. This trend fits also to the liquid chromatography that enables the determination of various com-
pounds in complex matrices. The classical approach to this technology and its use for the analytics and prepara-
tive purposes generates significant amount of waste and thus it has an important contribution to the carbon foot-
print. To prevent this, a number of procedures was introduced eg., whose main task is to reduce the amount of
used organic solvents, the use of less toxic alternatives, and there are attempts to carry out separations using pure
water as the mobile phase. The article presents some of the well-known "green" solutions for liquid chromatogra-
phy, shows the potential advantages and disadvantages, and presents prospects for the future in the synthesis of
a new generation of chromatographic packings.
