Analysis of nanomaterials NAUKA
− PARTICLE BY PARTICLE
The increasing demand for identification and characterization of nanomaterials has contributed to the develop-
ment of new techniques which enable simultaneous qualitative and quantitative analysis of the nanoparticles. In
terms of methodology and metrology, nanoparticle is treated as an analyte or one of its forms of speciation. In the
case of nanopowder analysis, primarily SP-MIP-OES technique is used, and for the nanoparticles in suspension
SP-ICP-MS is used. These techniques allow for an advanced physico-chemical analysis of samples of complex
matrices (biological and environmental samples) including, inter alia, analysis of the chemical composition of the
nanoparticle core and shell, shape, size, particle size distribution, the degree of aggregation or agglomeration as
well as determination of the concentration number. The analytical techniques contribute to study of the potential
impact of nanomaterials on human health and the environment.
