USING ELECTRONIC NOSES

Preventing illegal distribution of tobacco products in Poland is a serious problem. Therefore, there is possibility to
limitate the smuggling across the borders. The authors believe that it is possible to use electronic noses in routine
border controls. During the manufacture of cigarettes chemical substances are added to change product proper-
ties. These chemicals may constitute a threat to human health. Furthermore, the presence of these additives in
tobacco products may cause its specific aroma. The aroma is different depending on the origin of cigarettes. Using
the electronic noses to classify the cigarettes by their odour makes possibility to distinguish smuggled and legal
proceeded cigarettes.
