TRUENESS OF CHEMICAL MEASUREMENT RESULTS – ONE OF IMPORTANT VALIDATION
PROBLEMS

In analytical laboratories it is required or even compulsory to use certified reference materials if only appropri-
ate materials are available. Certified reference materials are particularly important in validation of analytical
methods. The choice of fit for purpose certified reference material may be not easy, and should be preceded by
the review of available information, especially information included in certificates of analysis. However, despite
ongoing attempts to unify the way of reference materials description and terminology, not always it is an easy
task. Certified reference materials producers often use their own terminology, thus reference materials users may
not always know how to interpret information from certificates. Chosen examples of such ambiguities have been
                    described in the article.
