CHANCE TO INCREASE EFFICIENCY OF PHYTOREMEDIATION PROCESS
BY COMBINING OF CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL METHODS

Application of chemicals to enhance the efficiency of phytoextraction of xenobiotic substances from soil solution
increases both efficiency of the process and the economy of the treatment, relatively to the time of its applica-
tion. These substances are synthetic and natural metal chelating compounds. However this technology has some
drawbacks (environmental). This concern mainly the risk of migration of metal chelants in the soil solution, their
toxicity, and no selectivity of chelators for metals coexisting in the soil. Modern approach to the phytoextraction is
an usage of natural chelating substances and genetically modified organisms, it is perhaps promising perspective for
this technology. Application of bacterial strains promoting plant growth simultaneously with the chelators may be
this kind of approach. Rhizobacteria increasing plants' growth ability in the metal stress conditions. Low molecular
weight organic acids in comparison to synthetic substances are not toxic for bacteria and plants. Therefore that
kind of accelerating of metals phytoextraction is less risky for the environment.
