OF ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION OF PLASTICS

Environmentally degradable polymers and plastics (EPDs) are a group of polymeric materials, the quantity of
which has increased significantly in recent years. Many standards have been established by various standardiza-
tion units. They are also used as basic certification systems. The standards define, for example, how to measure
biodegradation of the material or what kind of the criteria must be fulfilled by the polymeric material thought to
be as biodegradable. The paper presents a structured, fast-growing current state of normative resources in this
area. It was overworked on the bases of data analysis coming from various bodies such as American Society for
Testing and Materials ASTM (USA), European Committee for Standardization CEN (Europe), German Deutsches
Institut fur Normung DIN (Germany), Biodegradable Plastics Society JIS (Japan) and International Organization
                    for Standardization ISO.
