metabolism of xenobiotics
The number of newly discovered chemical compounds is growing rapidly. However, before any of them will be
release to medical use, first it has to be thoroughly tested for pharmacological and particularly toxicological reasons.
Modern procedures for introducing new pharmaceuticals are time–consuming and very expensive. For this reason
scientists are constantly looking for new simulation systems allowing quick access to reliable information about
biological changes of this compounds. Biological models are widely used in research, but they are associated with
long-time analysis and limited reproducibility of the results. Alternative for these models is utilization of achieve-
ments and research tools used by specialists in the field of electrochemistry (EC).
In this paper, we tries to explain the basics of electrochemical simulation of I and II phase of metabolism, ways
to perform EC, types of chemical reactions carried out by P450 and which can take place during electrochemical
reactions, positives and negatives of electrochemical simulation of metabolic reaction.
