Homogenization of plant tissues Praktyka

AN ESSENTIAL STEP FOR PREPARATION OF SOLID SAMPLE BEFORE ANALYSIS

Vegetables and fruits should be the main component of our diet. They provide many essential nutrients, e.g.
vitamins, fiber and microelements. Consumption of vegetables and fruits can prevent the occurrence of various
diseases. Therefore, the plant tissues are interesting analytical material providing valuable information about its
                    healthy properties.
In many laboratories, homogenization technique is used for preparation of plant tissues during sample prepara-
tion. This process is based on the preparation of a homogeneous mixture by vigorous stirring and grinding plant
samples in homogenizers. Homogenization has many advantages and a wide range of application. Unfortunately,
this technique has also various disadvantages which could deteriorate process of plant tissues preparation. In this
manuscript one can find information concerning types of mechanical homogenizers, the benefits of homogeniza-
tion as well as faced problems and the possibilities of their avoidance.
