Application of LA-ICP-MS NAUKA
FOR QUANTITATIVE IMAGING OF ELEMENT'S DISTRIBUTION
IN PEA PLANT’S TISSUES
The method of laser ablation in connection with ICP-MS detection has been applied to present in a quantitative
imaging the distribution of physiological and toxic elements in tissues of Pisum sativum L. The analyses were car-
ried out in vivo in cross section through the roots and stems of the plant in order to estimate the pea plant ability
to absorb and transport elements into the overhead parts of the plant. In order to determine the content of ele-
ments such as Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn in plant tissues, calibration curve was prepared by standard addition method,
where NIST SRM 1515 Apple Leaves were used as certified reference material, and sulphur isotope (34S) was used
as an internal standard. The results obtained by LA-ICP-MS method were compared with the results obtained in
the ICP-MS analysis in terms of accuracy, precision and recovery.
