APPLICATION AND DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS
Ion mobility spectrometry is a gas phase technique that uses electric fields to separate
ion species based upon differences in their drift velocity. DMS is special method used in
ion separation based on nonlinear dependence of ion mobility on electric field strength
under atmospheric pressure. The article describes the principles of IMS and DMS. The
practical application of the coupled IMS-DMS techniques in construction of the new BST
chemicals-detecting instrument are presented.
