Determination
of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol
Cannabis products are the most common drugs worldwide. Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is one of the major
cannabinoids in Cannabis and it has been propen to be the compound that possesses the psychoactive proper-
ties. On the basis of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol content, Cannabis plants are divided into chemotypes. It is so
important to define the chemotype of Cannabis because European Union allows cultivation of fiber-type hemp
varieties, but cultivation of drug-type hemp varieties is prohibited. Forensic laboratories determine the total con-
tent of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and delta-9-terahydrocannabinolic acid in Cannabis plants and Cannabis
products and on this basis they determine whether it is a controlled substancje or not.
